‘Remote learning’

This is generally what would happen when one child / family is working from home.

Remote learning provides an opportunity for students and teachers to remain connected and engaged with the content of what is being learnt in school, while they work from their homes. Opportunities for remote learning are typically linked to emergency situations that pose a threat to student safety.

Blended Learning

Used when a whole group are absent, either class, year group or whole school.

Blended learning is an approach to education that combines online educational materials and opportunities for interaction online, with traditional place-based classroom methods. It requires the physical presence of both teacher and student, with some elements of student control over time, place, path, or pace. While students may still attend "brick-and-mortar" schools with a teacher present, face-to-face classroom practices are combined with computer-mediated activities regarding content and delivery.

Innovation:

Classroom environments accommodate learning to support either learning through play, group work or independent study with readily accessible IT and interactive spaces. Encouraging teachers to be innovate in their teaching and children to be innovate in their learning. 

Nurture:

Teachers are highly aware of children's well being and mental health and support this through their teaching, at home and school. They work closely with parents and are flexible with timelines and experience in order to enable all children to be successful.

Success:

Creating a ethos of success, whether that be at home or school is vital for children to achieve. Children, Parents and teachers are encouraged to share children's successes to ensure this ethos flourishes. 

Passion:

Teachers are reflective in their practice, connect with each other to improve their instruction and accept constructive criticism in a desire to drive learning and develop their own practice. Children and Parents are passionate in their drive to learn at home and school and to support children in developing their skills, knowledge and interests.

Integrity:

Teachers determine what they need to teach and what materials children should explore on their own. During class time, teachers continually observe, providing children with live, relevant and specific feedback. At home teachers work with parents to identify next steps and drive improvement when away from the school environment.

Responsibility:

Teachers take their responsibility to drive learning, planning future targets and improvement of children's rate of progress. However, children and parents take a responsibility also. The tri-ad work closely together to ensure success.

Excellence:

Children are actively involved in skill and knowledge construction as they participate in and evaluate their learning. The tri-ad of teacher, child and parent work closely together to ensure every child achieves excellence in or out of school. 

What can I expect?
 This information is to be used as a general guide and parents can expect further details of remote learning for their child as and when it is required. We aim to implement remote learning from your child’s second day of absence. There are 2 general scenarios outlined below; the first scenario where your child is not permitted to attend school (but are not ill) and the second outlines the actions in the case of a whole bubble not being permitted to attend school.

The government’s Oak Academy online lessons can be used for remote learning for every year group, covering a wide range of curriculum objectives.    https://www.thenational.academy/
